The Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP (red variety) is one of the oldest excellences of Campanian agriculture, nicknamed the "red gold" of Naples. It owes its name to the traditional "al piennolo" (pendulum) preservation technique, which consists of tying the bunches around hemp string until they form a large circle to hang in aerated places. 
The skin is particularly thick and leathery, while the pulp is firm, compact and low in water.
It has an intense flavor that balances sweet and acidic notes, enriched by the minerals of the volcanic soil.
