Borettane onions are a variety of onion native to Boretto, a municipality in the province of Reggio Emilia where they were grown as early as the 15th century. Today their production has extended to the entire territory of Emilia and lower Veneto. 
They are unmistakable for their flattened/flattened shape and straw-colored skin.
They have a sweet and delicate taste, much more pronounced and less pungent than common onions.
