Long catalog chicory (also called asparagus chicory or head chicory) is a variety characterized by an erect head with long, jagged, deep green leaves. 
Unlike the "spigata" variant (which produces the classic puntarelle), this type has more fibrous ribs and a markedly bitter flavour, which is why it is mainly consumed cooked.
