Tokyo turnip (also known as Hakurei or Japanese turnips) is a small, round, smooth white turnip variety prized for its sweet flavor and crunchy texture. Unlike traditional European turnips, they were selected to be eaten mostly raw or with minimal cooking, earning them the nickname "salad turnips." 

The flavor is sweet and buttery with a slight fruity note; they almost completely lack the bitter aftertaste typical of common turnips.
